Such results “don’t tell us anything,” says Joy Larsen Haidle, a genetic counselor at Humphrey Cancer Center in Robbinsdale, Minn. and immediate past president of the National Society of Genetic Counselors (NSGC). “So just because a test is available doesn’t mean that it’s useful for everyone. And is it the best way for us to be spending our healthcare dollars?”
