Every three years, the NSGC Board of Directors comes together and works with leading experts and facilitators to develop a strategic plan for the following 3 years. This plan outlines key goals and objectives that we will focus on as an organization in order to move the genetic counseling profession forward.
Advance the role and recognition of genetic counselors as genomic experts
Objectives:
- Amplify genetic counselor visibility and national influence.
- Spearhead and foster relationships with international genetic counseling organizations to increase NSGC’s global connectivity.
- Champion the responsible integration of emerging technologies to enhance the practice and impact of the genetic counselor.
Achieve competitive reimbursement for genetic counselors to improve patient access
Objectives:
- Achieve federal recognition and Medicare reimbursement for genetic counseling services performed by genetic counselors.
- Increase state-level recognition via licensure and Medicaid reimbursement for genetic counseling services performed by genetic counselors.
- Engage and educate private payers and genetic counselors to improve reimbursement of genetic counseling.
Transform NSGC for the future to ensure sustainability and value for members
Objectives:
- Cultivate and actualize a membership culture and community where inclusion and belonging thrive.
- Modernize NSGC’s infrastructure to meet the needs of a growing membership.
- Build a future-focused portfolio of education and professional development programming that supports members at all career stages and across professional roles.
