Information for Applicants to Genetic Counseling Programs Who Do Not Match in the Admissions Process
On this page you will find information about a process designed to help qualified unmatched applicants and genetic counseling programs with unfilled positions at the close of the match period connect to one another. This information is only for applicants who were interviewed by at least one genetic counseling program and not offered a position or have not accepted a position at any genetic counseling program after the close of the match period on Wednesday, April 27, 2016.
Below you will find a list of genetic counseling programs that are willing to be contacted by unmatched applicants to determine if they have any unfilled positions. In order to make this list available to you as soon as possible after the match period, the list was created before the match period. Therefore, many of the programs listed will be filled by the end of the match period, but some may have positions available. It would be helpful if you would only contact programs that you would seriously consider attending. Please contact the program at the contact information given on the webpage as soon as possible between 9 AM EST on April 28 and no later than May 6, 2016.
If you contact a program that you have not previously applied to and they would like to consider you for admission, you will likely be asked to submit a complete application and materials to that program. The program you contact may ask your permission to talk with programs where you already interviewed, and an interview may be required at the new program before a decision about admittance is given. This process does not guarantee that you will ultimately be offered admission to a genetic counseling program.
This process is made available through the Association of Genetic Counseling Program Directors and the National Society of Genetic Counselors. If you have any problem accessing the web page, please contact Laurie Nemzer, MS, LCGC, at (510) 752-6301 or Laurie.Nemzer@kp.org.
